Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Professional Training Program

Thursday, June 13, 2013 - Friday, June 14, 2013 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

This workshop is part of the the Applied Mindfulness Meditation Certificate program, which is in the Factor-Intenwash School of Social Work, University of Toronto.Mindfulness and self-compassion are seen as two wings of the same bird.Traditional Buddhist teachings in self-compassion are powerful and elegant, and can be interwoven with contemporary evidence-based clinical practices to address such issues as self-criticism, depression, low-self-esteem, anxiety and social isolation.Compassionate mind development with individuals has been shown to be a viable clinical approach that engages people in overcoming these negative emotional states, and also supports individuals and communities for general well-being. In this seminar, we will focus on practical methods for supporting the development of self-compassion to address a variety of psychological difficulties. There will be instruction, meditation, role plays, and time for clinical discussion on applications of these tools in your practice. A bibliography of relevant publications will also be provided.
